Pittsburgh Botanic Gardens & The Memoir Agency: Dazzling Lights

Flyspace Production’s big winter contract was with The Memoir Agency (South Carolina, USA). I, alongside a team of experienced and dependable production hands were selected to build the sets, install the lights, run the cables, and host the event, open to close. In October of 2023 I was contracted to assist with the stage building, lighting install, and set design of Quantum Theatre’s production of The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk, presented by the Rodef Shalom Congregation of Pittsburgh.

Horizon Information Systems: Audio Console Build

When not assigned to a job or on the road, I spent my workdays in the warehouse building custom media consoles to be shipped to clients. Each console contains audio hardware specific to the needs of the client, such as pre-amps, transmitters, disk drives, etc.

Horizon Information Systems: Quaker Valley High School Stadium Audio System Installation

One of my first assignments as an Audio/Visual Technician for Horizon Information Systems, the Audio System Installation for Quaker Valley High School’s athletic field included the replacing of outdated tech with new audio system hardware, new wire paths running through the drop ceiling, and a new set of weather-proof outdoor speakers mounted to the roof of the press box and attached to the floodlight poles on the opposite side of the field.

Horizon Information Systems: Hampton Township High School Fiberoptic Installation

My first assignment as an Audio/Visual Technician for Horizon Information Services was to assist a small team of experienced engineers with the installation of fiberoptic cables at Hampton Township High School. This high school was in the midst of renovating the cafeteria and multimedia spaces, which required new fiber lines to run from the data center across the ceiling into each classroom.

⭑ Allegheny Country Club: Antique Door Restoration ⭑

One of the oldest surviving pieces of the original clubhouse, this door came down to our shop in need of window repair, wood restoration, and a fresh coat of paint and protective sealant.

⭑ August Wilson African American Cultural Center: Red, Black, & Green by Shani Crowe ⭑

⭑ Pittsburgh, PA ⭑ July 2022 ⭑

This collection of work from Shani Crowe showcases themes and ideals of contemporary pro-black artistry. From collective unity to radical revolution, teachings of the modern Black American experience are explored and expounded. I was fortunate enough to not only assist with the installation of this exhibit, but also serve as a gallery attendant during its time at the August Wilson Center.

⭑ HM3 presents: Celebrity Care Fest 2022

HM3’s Celebrity Care Fest is an annual charity event thrown to celebrate and support the students and teachers of Pittsburgh. Flyspace Productions was contracted to deliver and set-up the mainstage, build catering & merchandise tents, provide tables & chairs, and prepare VIP sections before the show. The 2022 festival featured performances by the Jacksons (Janet attended to support her brothers!), Lou Gramm, the Temptations, and Queen V.

⭑ Quantum Theatre presents: The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov ⭑

In July of 2022, I was contracted to work Sound Tech II for Quantum Theatre’s rendition of Checkhov’s The Cherry Orchard. The show ran for two months, three nights a week, often to a full house. It was a great show.

⭑ Allegheny Country Club: Annual Women’s Invitational Golf Tournament 2022 ⭑

To prepare for the annual women’s invitational golf tournament, I assisted the ACC clubhouse events department with setting up tables & chairs, tablecloths & place settings, lights & décor, floral arrangements, and centerpieces.

⭑ Allegheny Country Club: Tennis Court Lounge Furniture Restoration⭑

As the tennis season ramped up, my coworkers and I refurbished the Kingsley-Bate furniture set that adorned the indoor tennis court viewing area. This was a simple sand & stain job, but the results were beautiful. We used 60 grit to sand, 120 grit to finish, and teak oil to stain.

To celebrate the coming of the warm summer months, and the completion of our winter renovations, the Allegheny Country Club hosted a Pool Deck Grand Opening Gala. I assisted with cleaning, venue prep, tables & chairs, lights, and decor.

Outdoor Plumbing: replacement of the club’s bespoke: tennis court drainage system. PVC piping, twist locks, joints, and gallon barrels replaced to ensure proper drainage & continuous hydration of the sand/pea gravel tennis courts.

Allegheny Country Club: Rust Removal

To prepare for the upcoming ACC Spring Luncheon (an outdoor meeting used to plan the spring and summer clubhouse events), I was tasked with restoring the metal columns that held up the club’s signature green & white awning. This was a small detail that really brought new life to the space, as many club members commented on the patio’s clean new look.

New French Doors ordered for the veranda. The door were prefabricated and made of pine. We wood-filled, sanded, treated, primed, and painted the doors before attaching kickboards & brass hardware, and hinging them to the frame.

In March of 2022, My colleagues and I secured employment with the Allegheny Country Club, where we served as maintenance technicians working in and around the clubhouse property. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to document a great deal of projects and accomplishments. The first of which, pictured below, was hallway baseboard restoration.

August Wilson African American Cultural Center presents: American Rhapsody by Garrett Bradley

In March of 2022 The August Wilson Center welcomed it’s first of many black contemporary artists to be featured in the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation Gallery. Garrett Bradley’s American Rhapsody showcases themes of race, class, family, and black culture through a filmographic medium. I was very fortunate to work as a gallery attendant for this exhibit.

Beginning in Black History Month of 2022, The August Wilson center commenced preparations for its summer exhibits, which would feature the installation of several different gallery collections from prominent black contemporary visual artists. Contracted through Flyspace Productions and working in tandem with AWC production staff, I served as a construction hand during these preparations. I was tasked with repainting existing walls, building new walls, trimming & installing baseboards, and assisting with lighting installation.

Ground Floor Makeover for SSR Creative

McKees Rocks, PA January 2022

December of 2021, I secured a contract with SSR Creative LLC, a non-profit organization in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. Alongside a small team of my colleagues from the production company, we began restoration work on one of their recently purchased properties in January of 2022. Our work included wall structuring, drywall finishing, plastering, painting, cement working, electrical wiring, and general aesthetic restoration, resulting in the addition of seven brand new artist studios.

Immersive Van Gogh Art Exhibit

Through my work with Flyspace Productions LLC, I had the privilege of working alongside the installation team from Lighthouse Immersive (Toronto, Canada) tasked with creating the Pittsburgh destination for the Van Gogh Immersive Experience. My Flyspace coworkers and I installed the lighting fixtures, projectors, banners, wallpaper, sculptures, and interior decor.

August Wilson Center: “Sanctuary” Historical Art Exhibit

In November of 2021 the August Wilson African American Cultural Center welcomed the artwork of Derrick Adams to present “Sanctuary” an art exhibit detailing the life experience of African Americans living in the southern United States during the early 20th century. I was fortunate to be a part of the production team tasked with installing the 2nd floor artwork and sculptures for this exhibit.

DuoLingo Holiday Party

During the holiday season of 2021, Flyspace Productions was contracted to setup, host, and strike the annual DuoLingo Holiday Party. This event extended through through the entire office building, which included a dancefloor with Christmas themed decor, an open bar (Pittsburgh Mobile Bars), a holiday buffet, and a cocktail lounge with international holiday dessert platters.

LA Fitness: Billing Associate

My first job after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University in 2016 was at LA Fitness in Pittsburgh PA. I was a billing associate, however my duties included opening & closing, front desk attending, call answering, cleaning, and laundry services.
